Art Quilts and
Watermedia on Silk

I have always loved fiber and color. Painting on silk and making art quilts bring together these loves in exciting and satisfying ways. Santa Fe Memories - a silk painting

Painting in the abstract on silk requires flexibility, quick response, and a thorough understanding of the dyes. Dyes on silk produce a luminous quality that is unique in its transparency and purity. The colors can be ever so subtle or extremely bold and powerful. They blend and flow into each other, producing complex layers that provide depth, subtlety and movement. They invite the viewer into the painting.

Little Bang Quilt Quilting is a more structured and sequential process; it is more forgiving and invites trial and error.

Art quilts use materials that have limitations of shape and line (fabric and threads), but that provide tremendous opportunities for depth, complexity and texture through multiple layers of stitchery.

Together, painting on silk and quilting combine creativity and problem-solving in delightful and challenging ways. Underwater
