Joan Drennan – Oil Painter
Joan Drennan is a former elementary school teacher who put down her chalk and picked up a paintbrush at a friend’s urging. With her friend and fellow artist, Mary Lou Frazee, she has studied art at San Jose State University and with California’s master teachers: Joyce Pike, Anita Hampton at the Scottsdale School of Art, and Susan Sarback at the School of Light and Color in Fair Oaks.
I caught my niece, Leslie, in a quiet moment which led to the mesmerizing quality of a Daydreamer.
My white roses were uncooperatively dropping petals, going from bud to fragile bloom in short order. The process reminded me of the Passages we quickly move through in our own life cycle.
Artist’s Statement:
Hanging out with artists is one of my favorite things to do. I thought I was an attentive person, but it wasn’t until studying the world through an artist’s eye did I truly see! Everyday objects burst with color and beauty becoming more than they first appear when seen through an artist’s paintbrush, a photographer’s lens, or a sculptor’s hands. I look forward to seeing more, learning more, and experiencing more in this world of art.
Fair Oaks, Ca is known for its wild and colorful roosters and hens which roam freely in the streets. This one took me on a Morning Run as I chased him with my camera.
Reno, my daughter’s very large malamute has a goofy, endearing quality which I tried to capture in this quick study. It took many cookies to keep him still and focused!
